In 1892, a major cholera epidemic raged in Hamburg, and LYSOL passed its most important test in combating the disease. In 1913, the product SAGROTAN, still the most well known product, was introduced into medical practice. Gradually, the company's business activity extended into the areas of hygiene, body care and special preservatives. In the meantime, Schülke & Mayr build an important market position, becoming market leader in some of these areas. In 1963 - during the course of expansion - the company moved its site from Hamburg to Glashütte - a part of the present-day Norderstedt. Since 1996 the company has belonged to the French organisation Air Liquide, a concern that operates throughout the world, which is mainly active in the manufacture and marketing of industrial and medical gases, and which, like S&M, is devoted to the protection of health. Its worldwide turnover is approx. 4 thousand million £.
